About Us

With over 34 years of experience, Joseph A. Zuccaro D.D.S. provides you with complete dental solutions for all of your dental needs. Zuccaro Dental has been providing quality dental care in downtown Dubuque since 1964. Dr. Joseph Zuccaro since 1991 within the Midwest One Bank Building.

Our fully trained and experienced team takes utmost care of your dental problems, providing you with exceptional treatment and putting the beautiful smile back on your face. We are associated with professional associations such as The American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association (Board Member), Dubuque District Dental Society and Former President. We also offer same-day appointments and free consultations.

Dr, Joe was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended Loras College and The University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating in 1991. Dr. Joe continues to maintain and improve his dental expertise through continuing education courses and information seminars.

Dr. Joe has been happily married to his wife, Teri for 32 years. They have three children: Gus, Grace, and Tony. In his free time, Dr. Joe enjoys to play golf, boat, snow ski, read and be outside. He volunteers at the Iowa Mission of Mercy, DuRide, Sundown Ski Patrol, and in the past Dubuque Jaycee’s.

-General & Preventative Dentistry-
Our general and preventative dentistry services are designed to keep your smile healthy and strong. We recommend patients visit us twice a year for a professional cleaning and comprehensive exam. We use advanced digital X-rays, which are safer and emit less radiation, along with panoramic imaging for a full view of your oral health. We also welcome our youngest patients with children’s exams starting as early as 6 to 12 months, helping to build healthy habits from the very beginning.
-Cosmetic Dentistry-
We offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry services to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. From tooth-colored fillings and natural-looking veneers to crowns, bridges, and Snap-On Smile solutions, we tailor treatments to your goals. We also provide professional teeth whitening options, including Opalescence Go and custom-fit whitening trays, for safe, effective, and long-lasting results.

FAQ

Do you have one of these insurances?

Ameritas, Physicians Mutual, Anthem, United Concordia, Guardian, Cigna, Wellmark/Blue Dental, Aetna

Will my coverage change if you are not an in-network or “preferred” provider?

That is a great question! Unfortunately, we do not have all the limitations on your contract with your insurance, but we will do our best to estimate your reimbursement based on the information that your insurance provides us. On most services, there is a small difference between in and out of network benefit coverages, as long as your insurance allows you to see a dentist of your choosing!

What can you expect from the insurance company?

The insurance company will strongly encourage you to switch to a preferred provider. They have a vested interest and benefit financially when they do this. Insurance companies are a business - their priority is NOT your dental health.

Wait, there is still a dental benefit when a provider, such as Dr. Joe Zuccaro, is not a “preferred provider”?

Yes, insurance companies have traditionally not been transparent about this. There are a very small number plans that do not allow “out of network” benefits, but this is not typical. With most services, there is a small difference between in and out of network benefit coverages.

Wellmark/Blue Dental Insurance
I receive my insurance check directly. How does it work?

Some insurance companies pay the practice directly, and some reimburse the patient. For private plans or employer chosen plans that utilize Wellmark, this insurance chooses to reimburse the patient. The office will collect the full amount on the day of service, and your insurance will reimburse you directly, according to your contract, once claim is filed. The practice is legally contracted to collect for services as they are rendered.

Can I get an estimate of costs before my visits?

Yes - we are able to give our patients a very close estimate of benefits. We do our best with what insurance companies will give to us prior to visits. Our financial and insurance coordinators will continue to file your insurance on your behalf.

Can Dr. Joe Zuccaro and team still be my dentist?

Yes! We hope that you see our standard of care for your smile is higher than the insurance company. We truly care about you and your dental health!

Why did you make this decision?

The insurance landscape is continually changing, and we feel it is NOT for improving overall dental health of our patients. We have always maintained a high standard of care for our patients, and because of the insurance’s shortcomings, we are unwilling to bargain or cut corners – We will not compromise on your care!
